David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox Wins 2010 MLB Home Run Derby

Papi is back. Boston slugger David Ortiz reminded everyone why he has long been one of the most feared hitters in the game in blasting 32 home runs in Monday night’s 2010 MLB Home Run Derby. Papi looked like his old self as he swung freely and the balls flew over the fence.
The 2010 MLB Home Run Derby
Matt Holliday of the st. Louis Cardinals, Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees, Vernon Wells of the Toronto Blue Jays and Chris Young of the Arizona Diamondbacks all participated but were eiminated in the first round.
David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez beat out Corey Hart and Miguel Cabrera in the swinging semifinals. Although it was his first Derby, Hart had the best first round of any of the eight competitors with 13 homers. Then somehow looking a bit slow, Hart almost sheepishly followed that up with a homer-less second round. Miguel Cabrera ended the night with 12 long balls, but only five in his semifinal at-bat. The highlight of Cabrera’s night was the 485-foot bomb he sent over the right field fence in the second round of the semifinals.
The 2010 MLB Home Run Derby Final
Ortiz was the first of the two batsmen to the plate, and he set the bar high with some amazing shots. Although he slacked off toward the end of his turn, his eight blasts were enough to give him a big lead. Ramirez knocked one outon the thiord pitch, but never got into a rhythym and only managed to knock five out of the park in the final round (to give him 26 total).
Papi looked good in poking balls over the right field fence, five of his eight in the final were to the right. But Papi showed some of his power too. His longest of the competition traveled 478 feet.
“Hanley is like a son to me. He grew up with us in Boston,” Ortiz spoke of the Marlins’ shortstop who started the Big leagues in the Red Sox organization.
Afterwards big Papi dedicated his championship to his late friend and former big league pitcher Jose Lima
